Data sources

Data sources (Veri Kaynakları) shows what is in the legal database that Vesika AI and Case-law search look through: the total number of documents, the count per source group, how the documents spread over the years, and when the database last changed. Look here when you want to be sure the database is being updated, or to check how much of a source it holds.

Only administrators see this tool, and it is read-only: documents are not added to or removed from the database here. Which sources users can search is explained in Sources and coverage.

  1. Toplam belge (Total documents), Kaynak (Sources), Son senkron (değişiklik) (Last sync, change) and Son kontrol (Last check).
  2. Şimdi kontrol et (Check now): counts the database again straight away.
  3. Belgelerin yıllara dağılımı (Documents by year): one bar per year.
  4. The busiest year, how many documents are dated, and those without a date.
  5. Son değişiklikler (Recent changes): when and in which source the counts changed.
  6. Source groups, their sub-sources and document counts.

This screenshot comes from a small sample database prepared for this guide; the real database has far more documents and source groups.

Step by step: checking the database is current​

  1. Open Veri Kaynakları (Data sources). The database is counted once as the screen opens, so the figures show the current state.
  2. Look at Son kontrol (Last check): when the database was last read.
  3. Look at Son senkron (değişiklik) (Last sync, change): when the document counts last changed. When new documents are added to the database, this date moves.
  4. Read in Son değişiklikler (Recent changes) which source gained or lost how many documents.
  5. To look again while the screen is open, click Şimdi kontrol et (Check now).

The summary figures​

  • Toplam belge (Total documents): every document in the database.
  • Kaynak (Sources): the number of sources the database keeps apart (for example, each year of Court of Cassation decisions and each type of legislation is its own source).
  • Son senkron (değişiklik) (Last sync, change): when the counts last changed.
  • Son kontrol (Last check): when the database was last read.

Vesika counts the database by itself every few hours; nobody needs to open the screen. If the counts are the same, only Son kontrol moves. If the database cannot be reached at that moment, the screen says "Veritabanına şu anda ulaşılamadı; gösterilen rakamlar son kontrolden." (The database could not be reached just now; the figures are from the last check) and shows the last known figures.

Documents by year​

Each bar is one year's document count; the busiest year is drawn full height. Hover over a bar to see the year and its count. The line below gives the busiest year, how many documents are dated, and how many (and what share) have no known date (tarihi bilinmeyen).

Warning

Documents without a known date are in no year's bar, and they do not appear in searches limited to a date range. When users put a date limit on a search, these documents are left out.

If the chart cannot be read, a note in its place asks you to look again in a few minutes.

Recent changes​

Each line is a check at which the document counts changed: the date and time, the total difference (for example "+1.250 belge", +1,250 documents) and the sources with the largest differences. At most six source names are written on a line; the rest are summed up as "+… kaynak" (+… sources). The list shows the last ten changes.

After the very first check there is nothing to compare with yet, so the list reads "Henüz karşılaştırılacak ikinci bir kayıt yok." (No second record to compare yet). That is the state in the screenshot.

The source table​

The table groups sources the same way as the users' source picker (Mevzuat legislation, Anayasa Mahkemesi Constitutional Court, Yargıtay kararları Court of Cassation decisions, Danıştay kararları Council of State decisions and so on). Each row shows:

  • Kaynak (Source): the group name and "… alt kaynak" (… sub-sources) below it. Click that to list the group's sub-sources and the count of each.
  • Belge (Documents): the group's total.
  • Son değişiklik (Last change): the difference from the previous record; increases in green, decreases in red. "—" when there is nothing to compare yet.

Limits and things to check​

  • These figures are the database's own counts. They do not show that every document on a source's official site is in the database; for coverage see Sources and coverage.
  • The change history is Vesika's own record: it only shows the state at the moments Vesika counted. Changes between two checks are merged into one line.
